I’ve been focusing on two major systems: the material and the behaviour.
Materials.
I’ve switched to the stepper motor, mounted underneath my objects to fan things open and closed using springs and rubber chords to retract them. I like the stepper motor much more than the servo motor because the torque and the strength is much more intense.
I’ve been playing with many different types of material combos. I still want to work with the aesthetic of electronic waste as seen in Cyrus Kabiru’s pieces.
I also liked them in juxtaposition to delicate, flexible material that can carry light and for with a little less permanency.
The flexible items are interesting because they can carry the light in a different, more diffused way. They also have a greater range of expressive movement. So I think I’ll convey dramatic movements in electronic waste and subtle movement in pleated paper.

I’ve been giving these wearables to friends to see how they behave. Without fail, every person seems to have a preference in these devices as a mode for greater self expression
